How Migrating Your EHR Data Just Became Easier

This means that your current vendor must provide you with the following data export capabilities:

• Export of your patient data in a readable electronic format that can be easily converted by your new EHR vendor.
• Straightforward tools that allow YOU to extract your data without relying on vendors assistance.
• Exporting of data with no fees. There are exceptions when vendors may charge you a fee, but they are limited and don’t generally apply to the options described above.

Failure of an EHR Vendor to comply with the data export requirements of Cures is considered Information Blocking. If your EHR vendor engages in Information Blocking, they risk losing their ONC Health IT certification and can be fined up to $1M per incident.
